**What's the difference between combination brows and microblading?**
Microblading is a manual technique — I use a hand tool to make individual hair strokes, one at a time, across the whole brow. Combination brows are that same microblading plus a light, strategically placed amount of machine shading through the body and tail. The strokes still do the work at the front, where a brow has to look feathered and real; the shading sits behind them and adds density. Everything else about the appointment is the same.

**Who are combination brows best for?**
Two situations, and neither one of them is your skin type. The first is brow hair that's thick and coarse but grows in patchy — individual strokes get lost against hair that heavy, so I need shading to fill the gaps with density strokes can't build on their own. The second is simply wanting a more defined, filled-in look than microblading gives by itself. How dramatic that lands is a dial I set with you at your appointment, not something this technique does automatically.

**How does the powdered effect look after healing?**
The powder shading heals soft and diffused—not harsh or blocky. During the first week, it looks darker and more intense (that's normal). By week 4-6, it settles into a soft, graduated effect that mimics the look of filled-in makeup. Think 'just applied brow powder' not 'solid block of color.'

**Is the healing different from microblading?**
The timeline is the same — about 4-6 weeks to fully heal — but combination brows scab a little more in the shaded areas. Machine shading does hold a little longer than strokes on their own, because a machine implants more pigment than a hand tool does — and I'd rather be straight with you about what comes with that. More pigment sitting in the skin means it reads less like real hair as the years pass. That's exactly why I don't add shading to everyone who asks. How fast yours fades comes down to sun, sweat, and your own skin, which is what your aftercare is built around.

**Can I switch between microblading and combination brows?**
It depends on the direction. Going from microblading to combination brows is easy — I look at how your existing strokes have healed and build a light layer of shading around them at your touch-up or refresher; I do this all the time. Going the other way isn't something I can offer. Adding machine shading is a one-way door: once it's there, every future touch-up and annual refresher has to include shading too, because I can't lay manual strokes back over brows that already have shading in them. That's exactly why I start most clients at microblading only when they're not sure yet — you can always add shading later, but you can't take it back once it's there.

**Do I have to decide before I book?**
No, and I'd rather you didn't. I book you the same way either way, and the appointment starts the same: I map your shape, then complete all the microblading first. Then you look in the mirror at finished hair strokes on your own face and tell me whether you want them left exactly like that or filled in with shading. Most people find that a far easier decision to make while looking at it than while reading about it.
